A ZIMBABWE National Road Administration employee based at Rusape tollgate is alleged to have stolen US$5 from her employer.
Rudo Njerera (28) of Mabvazuva, who was represented by Mr Tatenda Kabasa of Chiwanza and Associates, was not asked to plead when she appeared before Rusape magistrate Mrs Petronnella Hanzi last week and she was remanded to July 4 2014 on her own cognisant. Appearing for the State, Mr Tafara Chawatama said Njerera did not issue a toll receipt to a haulage truck but went on to give the driver change when she was given the exact toll fee.

“On June 18, at around 11am, the accused was manning the Rusape tollgate when a white Freightliner truck, Registration Number ABS 2647 belonging to Cross Country Transport, driven by Daniel Shiridzinomwa, approached the tollgate.

“Njerera was handed $5 as toll fees and was supposed to issue a receipt for $5, but instead she gave the truck driver two dollars change and pocketed three dollars.

When the truck driver drove off, Njerera was intercepted by an alert police officer who was on duty at the tollgate and discovered that the driver was not issued with a receipt. This resulted in the arrest of the accused. “A spot check was conducted by a ZINARA cashier, Lloyd Maridzirashe, and a surplus of three dollars was discovered. Two dollars were recovered from the truck driver,” said Mr Chawatama.
