FIVE people have been hauled before courts for allegedly kidnapping two Mutare women  one of them pregnant after they accused them for stealing $360.

Primrose Sigauke and Nomatter Chinawa from Zimta Park high-density suburb were held hostage for four days by their adversaries who were arm-twisting them to repay the       money.

The five – Linda Madzime (31), Bongani Ngwenya (20), Gabriel Mutasa (29), Zenzo Rutsate and Elliot Musindo (20) – recently appeared before Mutare magistrate Mr Tendai Mahwe facing kidnapping (unlawful detention) charges.

They were granted $50 bail and will be back in the dock on January 23. Mr Mahwe ordered them not to interfere with State witnesses and they should report once every fortnight on Fridays at Chikanga Police Station. Mr Fletcher Karombe prosecuted.

The court heard that Madzime invited the complainant, Primrose Moyowekubara (21), and her friend, Nomatter Chinawa, to her rural home in Rowa for a New Year’s Eve party. They were travelling in a Toyota Runx. They returned to Mutare at around 9pm and Moyowekubara went back home.

Madzime later discovered that $360 was missing from her bag which was on the back seat of the vehicle. On January 4 at around 11 am, Rutsate and Musindo proceeded to Moyowekubara’s house whey they took her and Chinawa to 3560 Hobhouse 3.

Upon their arrival at the house, Rutsate took a heap of sticks from their bathroom and started assaulting Moyowekubara. The five took turns to assault her with sticks, open hands and clenched fists all over the body several times, accusing her of stealing the money.

The five detained Moyowekubara and Chinawa from January 4-6. The matter was brought to light by Winnie Chimwaza who received information that there was a certain alleged soldier who unlawfully detained someone at the house.

“She went to 3 Brigade Headquarters Mutare, where she reported the matter. Members of the Zimbabwe National Army police reacted to the matter and they found that the two were in custody of the five.

“They referred them to ZRP Hobhouse Base. Moyowekubara sustained some injuries due to the assault and was referred for medical examination,” said Mr Karombe.
