ZIM A side posted their second victory at Mutare Sports Club on Wednesday with a 110 run win over Kenya national team. Zim A set a target of 300 after finishing on 299-8. The target had to be revised to 252 using the Duckworth-Lewis method after rain interrupted play. Kenya failed to beat the target and settled for 141 all out.

Mountaineers wonder boy Timycen Maruma rescued the side with a defiant 82 off 108 balls.  Cephas Zhuwao who had scored 131 runs in his first game on Monday went out after 44 runs off 22 balls. Prince Masvaure contributed 69 runs off 83 balls. Former Zim Under-19 captain Brendon Mavuta excelled with the ball, and had all the reason to walk with his head high after taking four wickets. Brian Vitori took three wickets.

The loss left Kenya still seeking a first win in the remaining three games as they are now standing at two defeats.  The two sides will go back into the field of play today (Friday) at 9:30 am to play their third one day game. On Sunday they will play their last one day game before wrapping up with a Twenty20 game on Monday.

Several of the Kenyans batsmen made starts but could not convert them in the face of Zim A’s spirited bowling effort. Zim A coach Shepherd Makunura applauded his boys for the sweet victory.

“We are happy we the boys’ performance. They have shown the fighting spirit. We hope to continue with the fine form today as we are playing our third game,” he said.

He also promised fireworks in today’s match and urged all the fans to come in their numbers to rally behind the team.
