ZANU-PF has intensified its campaigns for the Chimanimani West by-election by seconding Politburo members to different wards where they will be supervising all activities.

Zanu-PF provincial secretary for administration, Cde Kenneth Saruchera, said they were leaving no stone unturned in their quest to win the Chimanimani West by-election where Cde Nokuthula Matsikenyere will be battling out with Mr Peter Gudyanga (Renewal Democrats of Zimbabwe), Mr Edmore Mtetwa (Independent) and Mr Pesanai Musakaruka (National Constitutional Assembly).

The Chimanimani West by-election is slated for November 26.

Last Friday, saw Zanu-PF national commissar, Cde Saviour Kasukuwere descending on the constituency where he called for unity of purpose among all members to ensure a resounding victory for the ruling party.

Cde Saruchera said: “As part of our campaign strategy, we will have Politburo members seconded to different wards where they will lead the campaign teams. We want to reach out to people from cells up to ward level so that we have a true appreciation of their concerns. As the ruling party, we are a people-orientated party and we are there to address the electorate’s everyday needs, hence the decision to go to the grassroots.

“This Saturday will see our leaders going on the ground to meet the electorate in various wards. We want to ensure that we win this by-election resoundingly.”

Chimanimani West was left vacant following the ouster of Engineer Munacho Mutezo from Zanu-PF for his continued association with Dr Joice Mujuru-led Zimbabwe People First party.

All the losing candidates who participated in the Zanu-PF elections have since thrown their weight behind Cde Matsikenyere. These include Cdes Letina Undenge and Tarsin Dube.

Another candidate, Cde John Gwitira withdrew from the race a few days before the primary elections.

In an earlier interview, Cde Matsikenyere, said a lot of work needs to be done to improve health and education facilities in Chimanimani West.

Cde Matsikenyere, who is the women’s league provincial secretary for economic affairs, said some wards in the constituency do not have health care centres.

She said she would use her expertise in medical equipment distribution to spearhead the construction and furnishing of healthcare centres in Chimanimani West.

“I have to thank the people of Chimanimani West for showing confidence in me as a leader. There is a lot of work that needs to be done from health to education. As we speak, there are some wards in Chimanimani West that do not have clinics.

“Children are walking long distances to go to school in some of the wards, hence there is need to urgently address these issues. This is an area that had been marginalised for quite a long time. It also lacked sound leadership,” said Cde Matsikenyere.
