THE ruling Zanu PF party has expressed confidence that it will romp to victory in the Chimanimani Rural District Council Ward Eight council by-election to be held on Saturday (tomorrow).

Zanu-PF is fielding Cde Muyapi Chinguno, while National Constitutional Assembly is fielding Mr Isaiah Mushango.

The council seat was left vacant after the expulsion of Mr Joe Zviuya from Zanu-PF last year for his links with Dr Joice Mujuru-led Zimbabwe People First. Mr Zviuya was fired together with former Member of National Assembly for Chimanimani West, Engineer Munacho Mutezo.

In an in interview, Manicaland provincial secretary for administration, Cde Kenneth Saruchera, said the party had done its homework and ready for the by-election.

“We are in touch with the people on the ground and the response has been overwhelming. We are confident that we will win that election. More importantly, the recent by-election that was held in Chimanimani West has an influence on this council by-election.

“The people of Chimanimani as a whole have confidence in the party as shown by the result of the recently held by-election where Cde Nokuthula Matsikenyere romped to victory. Therefore, Ward Eight cannot really be an exception,” said Cde Saruchera.

He said the party had immediate and long term plans for the people of Chimanimani.
