YADAH Queens and Nyamauru will clash in the Independence Trophy finals at Sakubva Stadium on April 18.

A total of six teams took part in the preliminary stage of the competition.

Teams were put in Pool A and B.

Pool A teams included Faith Drive, ZRP Queens and Yadah Queens.

Pool B was made up of Nyamauru, Mutare Girls’ High School and Sakubva 2. Top two teams in each group proceeded to the semi-finals.

Yadah Queens and Faith Drive finished on top in Pool A, while Nyamauru and Sakubva 2 made it from Pool B. To book a place in the finals, Yadah Queens booted out Sakubva Two 6-0, while Nyamauru were 2-0 winners over Faith Drive. Yadah Queens will square off with Nyamauru on April 18.

Despite being ‘new babies’, Yadah Queens will be looking for a positive result. Yadah was born in March last year with the aim of playing top-flight football and also to be the feeder team to their sister team in Harare.

Manicaland Women Football committee member development, Norman Nyaude, said a lot of teams had indicated their participation, but most of them could not make it citing financial constrains.

Nyaude could not reveal the total package for the cup.

“The teams played very well from the preliminary stages up to the finals. We were expecting more than 14 teams, but some could not make it due to financial challenges. We have witnessed a lot of skills. The level of women football in our province is changing.

It really shows how serious local coaches are when it comes to training. We hope to see good football on April 18. I would like to thank all teams which took part in this year’s edition. I would also like to congratulate Yadah Queens and Nyamauru. For now I cannot say much about the package, but there will be something at the end of the cup,” he said.
