AN estranged Mutare woman was hauled before the court on Monday for threatening to scald her ex-husband with boiling cooking oil as well as burn his company car.

Fungai Mataranyika who has not known peace from his ex-wife, Maud Sigauke, over the recent months, appeared before Mutare magistrate, Miss Nyasha Kuture seeking protection. The court heard that Sigauke has been incessantly visiting Mataranyika’s workplace and place of residence embarrassing him in front of people, following their break-up.

“I no longer feel safe now and I need the court’s intervention so that she stops visiting or calling me. We are done, but she keeps visiting my workplace and home threatening to burn me with boiling cooking oil as well as burning my company car. She wants me fired from my job so I now need protection Your Worship,” said Mataranyika.

He told the court that the mother of his children should apply for maintenance for the children or find other alternatives ways of eking a living than visiting him directly for the children’s needs.

“I am insecure now even though I want to take care of my children. What I no-longer want is direct communication with her because she is capable of doing anything to soil my image. She should apply for maintenance than visiting me for the children’s needs,” he said.

Asked if she had any problem if the court grants the protection order, Sigauke consented to have the order issued in favour of Mataranyika. She disputed the allegations levelled against her though.

“We are leaving in peace with this man. He is the father of my children, but it is only that we are not getting along for some time now. I have never threatened him anyhow Your Worship. He is lying, but the order may be granted for I have no problem with that,” said Sigauke.

Miss Kuture granted the order in favour of Mataranyika and ordered Sigauke never to call him, visit his place of residence or workplace. She was advised to apply for maintenance.
