MUTARE-BASED Willowton Zimbabwe (Pvt) Limited has channelled resources towards the refurbishment of Sakubva High School 1 classroom blocks, geographical weather station and toilets.Through its corporate social responsibility programme, the oil refinery company has managed to repaint two toilet blocks for boys and girls, two A-Level classroom blocks, repair shattered windows around the school and repainted the geographical weather station. It has also constructed an incinerator to promote health and wellness taking cognisance of the girl child since there was no proper and adequate facility to dispose of sanitary ware.

Work commenced on April 8 and is expected to end before April 31.

The social responsibility programme was established to recognise, appreciate and give back to the communities who are consumers and workers in the newly established company.

It targets public institutions like schools, hospitals and churches.

Sakubva High School has been the first institution to benefit from Willowton’s CSR. It was chosen for its excellent academic record, featuring in the Top 10 in Manicaland Province and Top 100 nationally for the past three years.

It’s refurbished facilities will be named after the Willowton products.

In an interview, Willowton human resources manager, Mr David Muzvadzi, said this was just the beginning and more institutions around Mutare and beyond would benefit from the programme.

“Charity begins at home. Sakubva High School is less than 5km from where Willowton is located hence we chose to begin with the nearest institution. Sakubva High School enrolls students from different families in Mutare and it is therefore vital to give back to these same families who provide labour, market and continuity to the company.

“Willowton wants to be part of the entire community and we want to turn the eastern border city into ‘Willotare’. The painting of roofs in corporate colours and designing the classroom blocks with Willowton products like Sona soap, Delight cooking oil and Brightlight among others sends a lasting impression and huge free publicity to the community. It markets our products and influence consumer buying patterns,” said Mr Muzvadzi.

Sakubva High School headmaster, Mr Abisha Mupita, expressed gratitude to the gesture from Willowton.
