What is the purpose of face powder? The use of concealer is on the areas you need to cover and then powder on the clearer parts of your face

HELLO there fashionistas. I hope you had a great week. This week, I will be answering someone who asked me some months back, what is the use of face powder and how should it be applied? I am so sorry, I took so long to answer you dear, but here it is.

Powder can be used either over foundation to set makeup in place, or to take the shine off an oily face, or as coverage itself for a lightweight base.

You do not need to be an expert to put powder on your face. However, you do need to know what sort of powder to use on your skin type.

Many ladies simply use matt/pressed or cake powder found on the streets, instead of foundation and powder. This is great if you have good skin type. But if you have a problematic skin it might become worse because some of these type of powders are too thick and contain tints and other colourings.

If you have a skin problem, it is better to use concealer on the areas you need to cover and then powder on the clearer parts of your face.

I don’t recommend you to use a tinted powder on top of a heavy foundation base as things can go a bit too cakey!

If you are using a powder foundation, use a large, full brush to evenly distribute the product over your face for an even finish. When applying powder over foundation, use light sweeping motions across and around your face, and then gently buff the product in.

If you are using a setting powder or mattifying powder, it is best to apply the product sensibly.

If you have oily skin, concentrate your powder on the oilier areas. Dab with a small brush such as a blush brush and just lightly sweep over other parts of your face. If you have normal, combination, or dry skin, then sweep all over and avoid pressing powder in.

Shimmer powders and bronze powders are also nice to use, but you need to know what you are doing.

Apply such powders with a large brush only to areas you want to glow. Focus on the cheekbones, forehead, centre of the nose, chin, and décolletage (neckline).

Most pressed powder compacts come with a sponge or puff that work well for dabbing on powder but may be too dense for a light sweep (if you have oily skin). Use a specific powder brush instead with a light hand for natural and even results.

One of the best things about pressed powder is that it is much better for topping up makeup throughout the day without coating yourself in a dusting of powder.

Before powdering, it is important to use blotting paper or a tissue to remove excess oil from your face.

Otherwise, your powder won’t sit evenly. Reapply your powder as you applied it initially, patting it into oily areas and sweeping over other areas for light distribution.

Using pressed powder is one of the best ways to ensure your makeup looks flawless all day long.

Remember to use a light hand and dust only those areas that actually need powdering for a beautiful final look.

If you have dry or older skin, use powder on your skin sparingly as it has a drying effect and can show off wrinkles around the eyes especially.

That is it from me this week. Enjoy your week!
