THE curtains came down on the Manicaland Volleyball Association (MANVA) tournament with Rusape based Hard Hitters crowned the champions. The tournament was held in Chitakatira over the weekend. In an interview with Post Sport, MANVA chairman Farai Mboto believes event provided an opportunity to share best practices in sport for both players and officials.
“We had a successful tournament in Chitakatira to mark the end of our volleyball season which we believe was a great success. Local players and coaches believe they learnt lessons from the just ended tournament and season. We chose Chitakatira as our venue in a bid to take the sport to the people. Chitakatira men’s team plays in our MANVA league hence we saw it fir to grace their home area.
“The tournament also provided a platform for players to showcase their talent. We also managed to award our league winners this season. We did not have much as our league is not sponsored but we gave them balls and medals for a job well done. We hope next season it will be a big event,” said.
There was a lot of action in the MANVA league this season with seven teams and ten teams taking part in the female and male categories respectively. Africa University was the champions in the ladies category. Africa University played a total of nine games and finished with 17 points. Mutare Poly came second with only a single point below the winners.
In the men’s category, Mutare Poly dominated as usual and collected 40 points from 15 games. Rusape based Hardhitters came second while ZRP Mutare came third.
