THE MUTARE man who suspected that his wife was having an affair with her co-worker and went on to assault the alleged boyfriend as well as damaging his vehicle, has been dragged before the courts.

Fungai Munhapa (29) denied both charges when he appeared before Mutare magistrate, Mr Poterai Gwezhira.

He was facing assault charges as defined in Section 89(1)(a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23 and malicious damage to property charges as defined in Section 140 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23.

The matter was adjourned to January 10, 2017 for trial. Bail was set at $30.

The State led by Mr Brian Goto alleged that on December 16, 2016 at around 1pm and at Wise Owl Motel, Munhapwa’s wife, Vimbai Mukwekwezeke Munhapa and her Plan International colleagues were having an end of year party.

However, at around 7pm, Vimbai asked for a lift into the city centre from Osbert Mombeshora, her colleague. He offered to drop her into town.

“Mombeshora was driving his car towards the Central Business District when he noticed that the driver in the car that was trailing him was instructing him to stop, but he refused.

“The suspect then over-took Mombeshora’s vehicle from the left side and blocked him at the round-about near Zuva Service Station,” said Mr Goto.

It was further alleged that Munhapwa got off his car and approached Mombeshora whom he dragged out of his vehicle and started assaulting him on the mouth with clenched fists and open hands all over the body.

Mombeshora sustained a swollen mouth and bruises all over the body. As he blocked Mombeshora’s vehicle with his Honda Fit, the court heard that Munhapwa damaged the front door and front fender of the complainant’s vehicle.

He is also alleged to have grabbed Mombeshora’s car keys and used an unknown object to break all the windows and lights of the vehicle.

The boot cover and roof of the vehicle were also damaged and detached from their respective positions.

The value of the damage is $5 324, 50 and nothing was recovered.
