A YOUNG Mutare-based student has taken visual arts to another level with some magnificent drawings that depict our culture and lifestyle, and is making her name in an industry that is mainly dominated by men.

19-year old Noreen Nhemachena is Creative Art and Industrial Design student at Chinhoyi University of Technology. She recently made a beautiful portrait of President Mnangagwa.

“Art is important in my life as it reflects our humanity and way of life. My most prominent paintings include that of President Mnangagwa, our Vice Chancellor Professor Simbi and a portrait that I did for superstar Oliver Mtukudzi although I am yet to meet all of them.

“I always wish to meet the President and present to him this painting,” she said.

She added that her lecturer, Raphael Jamu motivated her to come up with President Mnangagwa’s portrait.

“I am determined to make my projects known all over the world,” she added.

Nhemachena realised her talent when she was doing Grade Six at St Joseph Primary School in Mutare. She continued with her art work when she enrolled at St Joseph High School.

“I developed the love for arts when I was doing Grade Six. My father was my major pillar of strength and he encouraged me to learn more about the dynamics of art.

“My greatest aspiration is Pablo Picasso the famous Italian painter.

“I always motivate myself through the motto: “Art Is Life, without Art I am nothing,” she said.
