UNITED Baptists Church – the responsible authority at Biriiri High School in Chimanimani District – has clarified the goings on at the school and said they have nothing to do with Satanism. Since the beginning of last term, female learners at Biriiri High have been suffering from a strange disease in which their legs suddenly start shivering. Names of a UBC cleric and four teachers at the school were uttered by a student who was undergoing deliverance a fortnight ago.
In a statement, the church said: “United Baptist Church is an evangelical denomination which subscribes to the principles of Ministry of Education Sport and Culture and to the principles of the biblical teaching. We fully abide by the Bible teachings and practice as indicated in our Church guiding verse 2 Timothy 2 v 15: “Rightly dividing the word of truth”. Only upon such principles shall we run our schools.
“At the end of last term a few students in our school succumbed to an ailment that involved shivering of the legs of the victims as well as mild pychosis. The problem was also experienced in this last term of the year with 29 out of 900 being victims since the onset of this condition. The disease is believed to be common to the girl child which is also the case with Biriiri students.
“The ailment is believed to be a psychologically contagious viral condition. However, such a disease is not unique to Biriiri High School alone since boarding schools and day schools around the country have also been faced with that untimely challenge.”
