1989 Soccer Star of the Year Masimba Dinyero has been relieved of his duties as Mutare City Rovers coach before he even sat on the bench for a single Eastern Region Division One league match.

Dinyero’s ouster come hard on the heels of a full council decision to let the team participate in the Eastern Region Division One season albeit with a linear budget compared to what was contained in the City Council budget that approved by the parent ministry.

Mutare City Rovers had been facing demise since the start of this year after the local authority’s finance committee had recommended that the club was unnecessary expenditure.

The recommendations were subject to adoption at a full council meeting which took place last Thursday.

Although no official comment could be availed at the time of going to Press, sources within the club and the local authority confided in this newspaper that the team had been given the greenlight ton play but with a heavily reviewed budget.

However, it is last Friday’s sucking of Dinyero as head coach that came as a surprise to many as the coach had not even sat on the bench for a league match.

Club new administrator, Clayton Masekesa confirmed the development.

“Yes, I can confirm that Masimba Dinyero is no longer part of us.

“He was relieved of his duties after the new club executive felt that he was not up to the task. We played a number of friendly matches and the executive had been monitoring the performance of the team closes hence the decision to part ways with him,” said Masekesa.

Dinyero was unreachable for comment as his mobile went unanswered on Tuesday.

Masekesa said the club is currently is the process of paying Dinyero for his pre-season services as per their agreement.

It is, however, understood that the relationship between Dinyero and City Rovers reached an all time low after the former Black Mambas player failed to work well with assistant coach Kenny ‘Bokande’ Kachara.

With Kachara enjoying the support of the bigger chunk of the team executive members, Dinyero was left in the cold and had to be shown the exit.

Interestingly, Dinyero’s departure coincidentally comes at a time when the club revamped their executive with former chairman Isdore Bingura now assuming the role of committee member.

The new chairman becomes Kudakwashe Chisango, who happens to be a Mutare City councilor.

Tanda Rwambiwa is the vice-chairman while Shepherd Jojo is the second vice-chairperson.

Rufaro Haparari is the finance director while Abigail Musunzuru is the auditor with Paddington Mugabe as the welfare manager.

Masekesa, who was the club’s mouthpiece in the previous executive is now responsible with the day to day administration of the club as the administrator.

Other committee members include Samson Kabwe, Benjamin Chindima, Brian Mkunga, former club secretary Soul Tomu, Hatinzwani Kabuya and one Gopo. The team doctor is Prudence Mhlanga while the legal officer is Tonderai Kanengoni.

There were not many changes in the technical department where Kachara has been elevated to acting head coach while the effervescent Lyndon Kanyemba remains the team manager.
