THREE men appeared in court on Monday on allegations of stealing two cattle from Bumba Village 15 in Chimaninimani.Enerst Mujaji (34), Nyasha Matsakara (35) and Blessing Matsakara were charged with stock-theft as defined in Section 114 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:3.

They appeared before Mr Poterai Gwezhira who remanded them in custody to September 20 for trial.

Mujaji hails from Maoneke Village under Chief Mutambara, while the other two are from Masasi Village under Chief Marange.

Mr Fletcher Karombe prosecuted.

The court heard that the stolen cattle belonged to Owen Chinawa (26) of Bumba Village.

Allegations were that on July 13 at around 3pm, the three connived and stole Mr Owen Chiwana’s two oxen. The cattle were at grazing pastures.

The three suspects went away unnoticed, but were later seen by Chayamiti local villagers herding the two oxen towards Marange.

Matsakara was arrested by the police at Cashel Valley and he revealed that they had sold the two oxen to Simpson Makunike. He also revealed that they misled Makunike into buying the cattle by using Edgefell Matsakara’s stock book number 424873.

“He also stated that he was with Blessing when they sold the oxen. Mujaji and Blessing were later arrested and they all admitted to the offence. The two oxen were valued at $1 000 and nothing was recovered because they had already been slaughtered at an abattoir (name supplied),” said Mr Karombe.
