Three nabbed for copper wire theft

A RUSAPE small-holder farmer who allegedly teamed up with his two employees to steal copper wire worth $5 000 belonging to TelOne was arrested and appeared in court facing theft charges.

Samson Hwangu (60) of Plot Number One, Abied, Zimati and his two general workers, Trust Mutsago (27) and Previous Sampika (19) who are represented by Mr Leonard Chigadza of Chigadza and Associates were not asked to plead when they appeared before magistrate, Mrs Elizabeth Hanzi who granted them $30 bail each.

State prosecutor, Ms Event Dhliwayo told the court that only 150 meters of copper wire worth only $70 was recovered.

“Samson Hwangu connived together with Trust Mutsago and Previous Sampika to steal TelOne copper wire cable at Zimati Farm, Rusape. Hwangu sent Mutsago and Sampika to steal the copper wire.

“The three accused persons were arrested and 150 meters of copper was recovered. The value of stolen property is $5000 and $70 was recovered,” said Ms Dhliwayo.

Mrs Hanzi adjourned the matter to October 14 for trial.
