A DARING thief was last Friday beaten to death in Nyanga after he was allegedly caught red-handed stealing some bottles of beer. The thief, Kidwell Gumiso (30), was found dead the following day after he was allegedly assaulted with sticks all over his body by five men. Gumiso died after he sustained serious injuries from the beatings.

The incident happened in Dombo in Village 24 at around 10:30 pm. Out of the five suspects, two of them – Taurai Dzimunya and a juvenile (name withheld) – were arrested in connection of the alleged murder. Anesu Dzimbiti (24), Gibson Chidzungo and Takudzwa are still at large.

Police have since launched a manhunt to bring to book the three suspects who vanished soon after assaulting Gumiso. Taurai and the juvenile went to the former’s homestead. They met the deceased who had stolen Super Chibuku and a cane spirit. They alerted other people who came and assaulted him with sticks and left him for dead in the shop. They came back the following morning and saw him dead.

“Investigations are in progress. We urge people to desist from doing instant justice on suspects. In situations like these, we urge people to report the matter to the police. Police will not hesitate to arrest those who take the law into their hands,” said Deputy Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Luxson Chananda.
