IT seems like only yesterday that I walked on the great ground of St David’s Girls High Bonda. I still remember the fear that was in me, the fear of leaving home, entering into foreign land and the fear of being all alone. No lie, the first days were hard and I almost decided to call it quits but some inner voice kept motivating me.

Some inner voice in me knew my mission had not been done yet. I had to finish the journey even though it was hard and painful, as they say “No pain, no gain”. Time seemed to fly and before I knew it, I had to face the war of Ordinary Level. I have to admit, I did put a very good fight and I managed to overcome the war through God’s grace.

Months later, I became part of the students of St Augustine’s High School, “The Genesis of Excellence”, where the famous quote “kana usina kudzidza kwaTsambe hauna kudzidza” comes from. These past two years at St Augustine’s High are very memorable.

At first the thought of being a senior student freaked me out but I knew that if the Lord was with me, no one could ever be against. The school moulded me into being the lady of valour and virtue that I have become today. In High School, I have learnt the most about the essence of Education.

Trust me guys, doing drugs, dissing and bunking school is never going to provide for you and your family in the near future. But with your education, you have assurance of becoming a great person in the future. I saw some of my friends entering early child marriages. Trust me, it isn’t a pleasant sight. It is time we remind those who chase uniformed girls that we are students and not wives, we all have a right to education. Say no to early child marriages. Stop dropping out of school to join those Altezza boys. Face your books and one day you shall be driving your very own car. And that comes through hard work.

After this amazing journey of High school, I am certain that the future has so much in stock for me as I venture into University next year, awaiting the great heights that life is going to take me to. My advice to all those who fear going to High School and also to those being tempted to drop school due to all corks of hardships, is  ‘believe in yourself’, as one great man once said, “Remember that you are needed, there is at least one important piece of  work to be done that will not be done unless you do it”.

So never feel that you are of no importance in school, I’m sure we all have that one subject that we can ace even in our sleep. So guys, it’s time to quit those stupid, silly games and face your books and most of all drop the fear. Who knows you might be the next Bill Gates in the making. The bitter the roots the sweeter the fruit.

Special shout out to my parents and to my brother Prosper who never ceased to be my biggest motivation, not forgetting my friends Gamuchirai Mvududu, Kudakwashe Guri, Kaylyn Mutigwa and Cardwell Mandizha who have been there with me on the great journey of high school!
