The brutal truth about alcohol

The ManicaPost

Evangelist Peter Madondo—

ABRAHAM Lincoln is on record saying: “Alcohol has many defenders, but no defence.” This provoked me to look further into the subject and came up with this article. People drink for different reasons. It maybe to celebrate, to relax, deal with frustrations, to appear to be a gentleman or for social or religious reasons. Whichever reason, the adverse effects of alcohol consumption will take its toll on one point or the other.

Ephesians 5:18 and Galatians 5:21 say people began to be drunk when they started drinking. As sighted by the word “methusko” that marks the process of getting drunk. That very act was forbidden in the Ephesians 5:18 context.

E.W. Bullinger S T Bloomfield, Young Analytical Concordance Science and Medical studies testify that when a person begins to drink , he would be drunk to a certain degree. There is no minimum blood alcohol concentration or (BAC) that can be set at which there will be no effect absolutely.

1 Peter 4:3 reads: “For we have spent enough of our past lifetime in doing the will of the Gentiles  when we walked in lewdness, lusts, drunkenness, revelries, drinking parties and abominable idolatries”.

It is crystal clear that drinking parties are forbidden .The gist of the passage is to show that it is improper for Christians to gather for drinking purposes whether directly or clandestinely.

“Drinking Parties wrote Richard Trench in Synonyms of the New Testament are bouts, banquets, symposiums not of necessity excessive, but giving the opportunity for access. The idea being that drinking parties are wrong, regardless whether one gets drunk or not.

Many religious formations have embraced drinking of alcohol and created some ear enticing sayings to lure people into accepting such practices of drinking.

How many times have you heard people saying:  “Drink, but don’t get drunk”?

This is one of the devil’s antics to lure people into his kingdom of darkness. Who in his normal sense would tell his daughter or son to be promiscuous, but not to contract the HIV virus or a man who charges his wife to be adulterous, but not to fall pregnant?

Apostle Paul in the book of 1 Corinthians 6:10 was explicit in telling his readers that drunkards among many other evil doers will not inherit the Kingdom of God.

The Shona translation makes it even more interesting because it states: “Kana vanosinwa doro” these are occasional drinkers and not drunkards. They will also not inherit the Kingdom of God. It is regrettable that the world today has almost embraced drinking as acceptable as long as it is done responsibly.

I agree, but that can only go as far as man can go. Those are man’s standards and never God’s.

Remember, God said my ways are not your ways, neither my thoughts are your thoughts (Isaiah 55:8).

With dozens of negative health effects entailed to drinking, the deadliest of them is the spiritual castration.

As Christians, we believe in the life to come and if you entertain any hopes of being a part of heaven, the choice is yours, either the bottle or everlasting life.

Wine is a mocker and strong drink is a brawler, and whoever is led astray by it is not wise (Proverbs 20:1). I would not like to call anyone foolish or a fool, but I am compelled to speak where the Bible speaks.

Let me charge you to choose wisdom ahead of foolishness. Stay sober and be counted among the wise ones.

Forget about the purported benefits of drinking, even the inventor of beer knows that once enslaved by the desire for the wise waters judgement becomes distorted and sanity gets disturbed.

God bless you and till next time. Chiao
