A BUHERA teenager (17) raped a woman four years his senior who was in her monthly menstruation period. The teenager, who was not represented during trial, was sentenced to three years imprisonment by Rusape regional magistrate Mr Livingstone Chipadza. He had pleaded not guilty to the offence, saying the 21-year-old woman was his girlfriend.

He, however, had to thank his youthfulness after Mr Chipadza wholly suspended the jail term on condition that he received five strokes of rater-cane at Rusape Prison.

The woman told the court that the teenager who had offered to accompany her to her homestead suddenly demanded sex from her when they were near a river, saying he could not accompany her for free.

“He offered to accompany me home and I did not suspect anything since we knew each other.
“When we were near a river, he said he wanted to go back. He further stated: ‘asi handiende mahara, ndiitirewo something’ and he dragged me near the river bank and raped me. I was on my menstrual cycle and I had blood splashed all over my body,” he said.

Meanwhile, a Rusape teenager (16) who raped a six-year-old girl was sentenced to three years in jail for the offence.
The teenager from Gunidza Village was, however, spared the prison term by Mr Chipadza, who wholly suspended it on condition that he received four strokes of rater-cane at Rusape Prison.

In sentencing the teenager, who was accompanied in the dock by his father, Mr Chipadza warned him against committing crime at his age.
He also lashed out at the boy’s father for failing to pay his school fees, which led to the boy drop ping out of school while doing Form Three.
Mr James Wirima appeared for the State.
