Teenager dies in car crash

19-YEAR-OLD teenager, Lorraine Mtombeni, who is daughter to Officer Commanding (administration) Assistant Commissioner Kenny Mtombeni, was last Friday killed in a fatal car accident which happened in the city.
The accident happened at Arcadia along Herbert Chitepo Street on Friday evening.
Police said they were still investigating the matter to ascertain the cause of the accident.  It is alleged that Tendai Bokore (31) of 140B Carrington Road in Darlington was driving the red BMW car owned by Jefta Makumbinde which was involved in the accident. Lorraine was laid to rest at Yeovil Cemetery in Mutare on Sunday.

Deputy Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Luxson Chananda said the car had three passengers on board; the deceased Lorraine, Makumbinde and Redeemed Matekwe who were injured.

“The three were said to be coming from church at around 8pm and upon approaching a curve near Arcadia, Bokore lost control of the car and it veered off the road and hit a tree. Lorraine died on the spot after sustaining serious head injuries. The driver and two other passengers sustained moderate injuries and were rushed to Murambi Gardens Hospital. We are digging deep into the matter to ascertain the cause of the accident,” Asst Insp Chananda said.
