TEAM Manicaland left other provinces green with envy after an exemplary display which saw the eastern province, not only fielding the second biggest contingent behind the hosts, but also fully paying their affiliation fees at the ongoing National

Youth Games here in Chinhoyi.
Such was the orderliness in Team Manicaland camp that all athletes and officials donned the colourful yellow and black stripes, much to the admiration of many who watched as the province marched into Chinhoyi Stadium during the Games official opening ceremony last Sunday afternoon.
Not even the Sports and Recreation Commission director for marketing and business development, Daniel Kuwengwa, could resist the awe inspiring exploits of Team Manicaland.
“Manicaland has shown that they are an organised province. Even if one looks at the way they have dressed their participants, I think other provinces have a lot to learn from Manicaland.
“Manicaland is the only province to provide participants above 200 apart from the host province, Mashonaland West, which provided a total of 217 participants. I think we also need to applaud the host province — Mashinaland West — for a job well done. They have renovated most of the games venues as well as construct new ones that will remain a legacy of the games after the event is over,” said Kuwengwa.
At the ongoing Chinhoyi Games, Masvingo has 166 athletes, while Matebeleland South has 84, Harare 149, Bulawayo 166, Matebeleland North 53, Midlands 89, Mashonaland Central 84, Bulawayo 166 and Mashonaland East 166.
The 2016 Zimbabwe National Youth Games edition took a break on Wednesday after the officials opening on Sunday and two days sports competition in Monday and Tuesday.
The Games resumed on Thursday (yesterday) and will come to an end on Sunday. Teams travel back to their bases on Sunday.
However, Team Manicaland had bagged three gold, two silver and two bronze medals in athletics by the end of competitions on Tuesday.
St Augustines’ High School’s Alice Maunze scooped Manicaland’s first gold medal when she romped to victory in the 100m hurdles competition at Alaska Mine.
In boys soccer, Manicaland played a goalless draw against Bulawayo in their second match of the day after they had settled for a one all draw against neighbours, Mashonaland East.
The boys were bundled out once again at the first hurdle in the group stages of the competition after they settled for another goalless draw with Midlands in their last match of Group B.
The boys’ basketball team proceeded to the semi-finals after a sterling display in the initial stages of the competition.
The boys’ basketball team was set to partake in the semis on Thursday (yesterday), while their female counterparts were booted out of competition in the group stages of competition.
Chances of getting more medals are high for the province, with much more expected mainly from individual competitions in tennis and athletics.
