MANICALAND Province darts team is bracing for the darts title in the Easter National Open Darts tournament to be held in Marondera.

The five-day tourney slated for April 14 to 18 will be held at Marondera High School in Mashonaland East.

The tournament will draw teams from the country’s 10 provinces.

In an interview, Manicaland provincial chairman, Zvaita Gwenzi, said Team Manicaland was geared up for the tournament.

“We are training very hard as Manicaland. We know it will be a stiff competition, but we will fight hard for the top honours. We held our provincial trials recently and assembled a team that we hope will carry the provincial flag high. We have two men’s and two ladies’ teams. We believe they will not disappoint us,” he added.

Manicaland Province will bank on the services and experiences of Melody Gezana, Selesio Gunda, Buddy Gombedza, Talent Chidawanyika, Chipo Nyasha and Caleb Sigauke who have participated in many tournaments before.

National secretary, Steve Mwarindira, said each province would be allowed to submit two men’s and two ladies teams with the exception of the hosting province which will field three teams in each category.

“As NDAZ, we will hold the National Easter Open Darts Tournament, an event that we will use to select players to represent Zimbabwe at the Zone Six Darts Championships to be held later on this year.

This is an annual tournament. We expect competition to be very stiff since this tournament will determine who will qualify for the main trials of the Zone Six. Preparations are now at an advanced stage. For one to be considered for the main trials, you have to be ranked in the top 15 in the men’s category and top 10 in the women’s category. We are requesting the darts fraternity and the Marondera community to come and support this national event,” said Mwarindira.

Manicaland Men’s A team is made of Selesio Gunda, Othaniel Makwara, Weston Chinodakufa, Joseph Dzirutwe, Joel Marime, Talent Chidawanyika and Wonder Musuki.

Manicaland Men’s B team has Caleb Sigauke, Sylus Makuku, Emmanuel Mutambo, Tafadzwa Nzero, Trust Zamba, Action Chiroodza and Buddy Gombedza.

Manicaland Ladies A team is comprised of Melody Gezana, Sinodia Machekano, Zviiteyi Dzungu, Petronella Mususa and Nyarai Matamba.

Manicaland Ladies B team has Chipo Nyasha, Esther Ndongwe, Betty Sibanda, Mercy Ndlovu and Brenda Nyahoda.
