A PRIMARY school teacher from Marange has been hauled before the courts on allegations of stealing three goats which he forcibly took from his uncle in a bid to recover a debt.

Wilford Kamungira (24), who works at Shundure Primary School in Marange last week appeared before Mutare magistrate Ms Perseverance Makala, facing stock theft charges as defined in Section 114(2) of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act Chapter 9.23. Public prosecutor, Mr Mathew Chimutunga, told the court that the accused person stole the goats on December 19, 2017.

“On December 18 last year at around 5pm, the complainant, Blessing Chidzikwe (41) led his goats into a pen and closed it. The following day at around 7pm he discovered that his goat pen was open and three goats were missing. He went to sleep waiting to ask his children since they were responsible for looking after the animals whenever he is away.”

The following morning he asked his children and he was told that the goats had been taken by the accused person.

At that moment, the complainant’s wife revealed to him that she had failed to pay the accused’s debt and she had promised him something equivalent to the money owed.

The accused person took the three goats to cover the debt. The value of the stolen goats is $90 and all of them were recovered.
