Taxi driver  fakes robbery

A TAXI driver squandered his employer’s money and faked a robbery recently. Killian Chimukoko of House Number 358, Chineta, Sakubva, has since been arrested and appeared in court in connection with the offence.

He appeared before senior Mutare magistrate, Mr Langrton Mukwengi who fined him $100, failure to pay would result in him spending 60 days in prison.

Mr Fletcher Karombe prosecuted.

“On October 19 and at around 2am, Chimukoko drove to St Joseph’s Bridge in Chikanga and tied himself with an electric code around his neck onto the headrest of the driver’s seat of the taxi he was driving. He was driving a Honda Fit, Registration Number AEA3202.

“He phoned his employer, Cordelia Mombe and advised her that he had been robbed of $86 and was left tied in the car. Cordelia proceeded to make a report at Sakubva Police Station. She requested for police details to accompany her to the robbery scene. She was accompanied by Constable Farai Mahachi. On arrival Cst Mahachi untied Chimukoko and took him to ZRP Sakubva where he made the robbery report,” said Mr Karombe.

On the same day, Detective Sergeant Njowa was assigned to investigate the alleged case.

During investigations it was established that Chimukoko had made a false report to the police after squandering his employer’s money. He was arrested.
