THE Castle Lager Premiership season resumes this weekend with the bitter struggle to evade relegation raging on as Mutare City Rovers travel to Bulawayo for a date against How Mine FC.

City Rovers are two points above arch-rivals in the relegation dogfight, Tsholotsho FC and simple mathematics reveal that any slip up for City Rovers, coupled with a win for Tsholotsho will result in an exchange of positions on the log standings.

However, it will not be an easy task for Tsholotsho either, as the Bulawayo outfit faces Ngezi Platinum on Sunday, the same time that Mutare City Rovers will be sweating it out against How Mine.

Thus Mutare City Rovers coach, Taku Shariwa, reckons that his team still has a good chance of surviving that needs to be broadened by winning or at least drawing in Sunday’s match against How Mine.

“How Mine match is of utmost importance as it will define our year end objectives. We need a positive result to remain with fate in our pendulum.

“We respect How Mine, they have quality players and coach. It is bewildering why results don’t tally with the resources they have.  “We are training twice as hard knowing fully what is at stake. We were good on the road before and we hope that trend will help us this time around again. We need to be picking points home and away and this game will test our resolve,” he said.

That Tsholotsho FC will also have to face championship chasing teams — Highlanders and FC Platinum in their remaining league matches also gives hope for a better ending for Mutare City Rovers.

On the other end of the log standings, the race for the title continues with leaders FC Platinum and CAPS United separated by a single point.

FC Platinum face Harare City in their next match at Rufaro Stadium tomorrow (Saturday), while CAPS United travel to Luke Masomere’s Border Strikers at Dulivadzimu Stadium in Beibridge.
