MORE than 60 amateur golfers and beginners will sweat it out tomorrow (Saturday) in the undulating terrain of Claremont golf course at Juliasdale in Nyanga where Eve Golf Academy is set to hold a potentially exciting fundraising tournament.

The tournament is meant to channel resources towards reviving the sport Manicaland as well as motivate local talent to participate even in international tournaments.

The event shall be an annual golf tournament.

Participation fees have pegged at a lowly $30 that also caters meals as a way to encourage participation of a greater number of players.

The tournament, which tees off at 8am, will see the players participating in the individual stable ford tournament.

The event coordinator Calab Kunze said the country, especially Manicaland province, has talented students with a like the sport but need to be nurtured and developed.

Kunze said the tournament is meant to raise funds that are meant to revive dilapidated golf courses in the province.

“We are aiming at raising funds through this tournament so that we can facilitate the revival of dilapidated golf courses within Manicaland. These have become the major factor militating against local talent joining the sport or taking the sport seriously.

“We are hoping to attract more corporates and individuals so as to improve revenue for the fund-raising initiative. We are also expecting to have students from various tertiary institutions during this tournament,” he said

Participants expected to attend the event include those from Manicaland State University, Mutare Polytechnic, Marymount Teachers College, Africa University and several corporate.

Kunze said they are also expecting other participants to come from other provinces such as Midlands, Masvingo and Mashonaland Central and Harare.
