Dear Tete Barbara
My mother is a single parent who is always working hard to make ends meet for us to feed and go to school. Last holiday I met a guy through a friend from school who promised to help me with everything I needed. My friend has a boyfriend who buys her clothes and gives her money so I thought that it would make my mother’s burden easier if I didn’t ask her for much.
My problem is that I have discovered that I have a discharge and I fear that I may have contracted a sexually transmitted disease from this man but I am afraid to tell him because he might get angry. I know that I am not pregnant because he paid for me to have birth control so that I could finish school without falling pregnant. He was my very first sexual partner. I am 17 and ashamed Tete.

Unfortunately you fell prey to an older man who was prowling for young blood to feast on. You looked at your friend, admired the wrong thing and applied it to your life and now you realise that it was a mistake.
Peer pressure is one of the top reasons that people go astray in life. Not being content with who you are and where you are in life is a serious obstacle that will derail your journey to success. From now onwards focus on school and be a good daughter to your mother.
I suggest that you go to a clinic, get checked and treated for STIs, ask for an HIV test and also a pregnancy test just to be sure. Do not be afraid to tell this man whatever your results may be and understand that he did not get birth control for your protection because he cares about you.
He did it to protect himself from unwanted pregnancy. Find a trained counsellor to address all other personal questions you may have concerning your issue. People make mistakes everyday darling, but one must learn from these mishaps.
You need to change your mind-set and understand that the choices you make will have an impact on your life. Find new friends, be smarter and start a new life. As sad as it is that you are in this predicament, you can change your life for the better.
