AN 18–YEAR-OLD street urchin is in trouble with the law after he allegedly became violent towards a police officer who wanted to arrest him for assaulting his friends over a game of pool.

Mutare magistrate, Mr Innocent Bepura slapped Washington Simango with an eight-month jail term for assaulting his peers when he appeared in court last Friday.

The eight months were, however, wholly suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.

Simango, however, denied the third charge of resisting a peace officer as defined in Section 176 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23.

He was remanded in custody to March 31 for trial.

Mr Fletcher Karombe prosecuted.
