Childhood sexual abuse is now all too common and it is sad to note that in almost every publication we read stories of rape.
According to national child traumatic stress network (NCTSN) one in four girls and one in seven boys experience sexual abuse during childhood. It seems men and women nowadays are on a deflowering spree.
It is sad to note that the people who are supposed to protect the children are the very ones who are taking away their innocence.
Child sexual abuse crosses ethnic, racial, religious, and socio-economic boundaries. It happens to children in every kind of family, neighbourhood, and community.

The criminals if caught only suffer the consequence of their crime for a short time while they serve their jail term. It just takes a short while before they can move on with their lives.

Most of the rape criminals do not even go through any trauma because many cases go unreported.
The victims are prevented from reporting by their abusers since the criminals issue their victims with death threats.

In some cases the victims are prevented from reporting by their elder relatives since the criminals in most cases are close relatives of the victims such as uncles, aunts, fathers, brothers, step fathers people the innocent victims look up to and in most cases breadwinners of the families.

In some cases the criminals are acquitted because the young timid victims fail to prevent their case in courts.
On a sad note the victims suffer the trauma of the rape for the rest of their lives.

The trauma caused by a sexual assault can be severe and long-lasting. The child may be affected in many different ways.
Rape affects the child physically, it also affects the child’s behaviour, and the child is also affected psychologically.

The performance of a child at school is also affected when a child falls victim to rape.
Children who have been abused often suffer from increased fear and anxiety.

Most of the time they look troubled and uneasy, which makes it difficult for them to concentrate hence grasping concepts which are being taught at school.

The victims have relationship problems even with friends. They are irritable and moody. Children learn a lot from their peers.
Rape victims will be deprived of learning from their peers, causing the grades of the child to fall.

There might also be a drop in the performance in school of the victim because the victim may engage in self-destructive behaviour such as substance abuse since they might have heard that substance abuse will enable them to forget the dehumanising ordeal that would have happened to them.

The burden rape victims carry is overwhelming. Rape is a crime. Stop rape and let the children have a bright future.
