THE SKY is the limit for Mutare-based musical group, Sky Crew, which is taking the lead in promoting R ‘n’ B Africa, paving way for a new music genre, a different art in the industry.

The group made of three artistes, Kudzai Chiwocha A.K.A Eng Wochman, Shawny Samanga A.K.A A-Shawny and Tinashe Ndongwe aims to spread a unique beat to the Zimbabwean music industry which has been heavily flooded with ZimDancehall and Urban Groove music genres sidelining the other genres.

“The music industry has been swamped with ZimDancehall and Urban groove and not that it is a bad thing but we want to explore the unexplored genres that are lying idle at the back waiting for someone to unleash the beauty they add to the music industry whether local or international,” said Kudzai.

“We met in 2015 through music and became friends but our singing was for our own pleasure and we were into Hip Hop and Conscious music genres,” he added.

It was last year when they decided to fuse their music and come up with R ‘n’ B Africa where the music portrayed the African life from the beats to the instruments, thus R ‘n’ B originating from Africa.

Taking an inspiration from R ‘n’ B artistes such as Justin Bieber, John Legend and Enrique Ignesias, the group is into love songs with their upcoming album named Crazy Love Stories to be released before end of year.

“We have released singles like I Promise, What It Means, It’s Not That Simple among other and hopefully our album Crazy Love Stories will be out before 2018,” said Shawny.

The group has been popularising its music on social media through their Facebook page @kudzywoch (The Sky Crew) but are ready to take it to the radio to attract more listeners.

“We are doing more to popularise our music and soon we will be heard on our local radio station and hope to organise shows once we find sponsors to promote us for this is yet one of our challenges.”

They are targeting international artistes for collaborations and aim to expand the group so that it consists of various talented people ranging from dancers to songwriters so that they support other local art abilities especially those interested in African practices.
