NYANGA South Member of the National Assembly Cde Supa Mandiwanzira donated three beds and pledged to fund periodic visits by doctors who will offer free treatment at Nyajezi Clinic in remote Sedze Village in Nyanga.
Cde Mandinzira’s brother, Richard, handed over the donation during the official opening of the clinic last Thursday and also announced that on July 25 doctors will make their maiden visit to Nyajezi Clinic and offer free service to the locals.

In a speech read on his behalf by the Provincial Administrator, Mr  Fungai Mbetsa, Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs, Cde Chris Mushohwe, applauded Zimbabweans for their resilience.

“I would like to applaud Nyanga Rural District Council and stakeholders for this milestone achievement. Indeed you have demonstrated that in spite of the challenges our country is facing, Zimbabweans are hard-working people who can deliver tangible results even when resources are not awash,” he said.

The Nyajezi Clinic building was funded entirely by Nyanga Rural District Council in partnership with the Ward 19 community which moulded bricks, crushed concrete stones, carried river and pit sand to the site as well as providing labour among other things.

Construction of the clinic started in 2000, but work stalled around 2007-8 during the hyper-inflation era. Speaking during the same function, Manicaland Provincial Medical director Dr Mafauna thanked Nyanga District Council for the good work it had done in building the clinic.

“The total population of 1,8 million in the Manicaland Province has 281 clinics. The normal ratio of a clinic to the people is one is to 10 000, but in Mutare it is now one is to 6 400. In Nyanga District, the standard of service to the people is going to improve by the opening of Nyajezi Clinic as one clinic will cater for 5 000 people,” she said.

The opening of Nyajezi Clinic comes as a relief to the Sedze community, especially Ward 19 where villagers used to travel long distances to get medical services at Nyanga District Hospital.

Meanwhile, Mr Mbetsa congratulated Nyanga Rural District  Council after it was named the national first runner-up award in road maintenance and infrastructure development by the Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing at a ceremony held in Bulawayo on April 21.
