THE Manicaland Scouts Movement is optimistic of doubling its membership by the end of this year in line with the vision of the World Organisation of the Scout Movement (WOSM) which has set a target of 100 million scouts by 2023.

WOSM is the mother body for the scout movement in the world. Zimbabwe has set a target of about 100 000 scouts by the end of 2018. Manicaland Scout Movement chairman Mr Ernest Mungwari confirmed the development.

“As a province, Manicaland Scouts is targeting to grow its number by more than 100 percent in 2018. A number of measures are due to be crafted at the meeting we are going to have soon in order for this dream to come true. To see this plan through the chairperson together with the provincial commissioner have called a meeting for leaders in the province on January 29 at scout headquarters.

“The meeting is set to put finality to the plans set for this year, confirm the provincial calendar and to craft a roadmap for 2018. I am inviting all the leaders in the province to come and make a contribution to the plan for 2018. I want everyone to be there to take ownership of this plan,” said Mr Mungwari.

The meeting in Mutare is scheduled to run from 10am to 12 noon. He said plans that were crafted at the national strategic plan meeting in Kwekwe must cascade down to the province.

“We recently held our national strategic plan meeting in Kwekwe and we want these plans to cascade down to our province, our districts, and the groups. This is a very important meeting that marks the beginning of our year. If we start well we will definitely finish well,” said Mr Mungwari.

The Kwekwe meeting was mandated to draft the roadmap or strategic plan for the next three years for scouting in Zimbabwe.

Part of the agenda included the Africa Scout Day to be held in Ruwa in March this year. Scouts from all the SADC countries will descend on Ruwa scout camp to celebrate scouting in Africa.

Zimbabwe is the proud host of this prestigious event on the scouting calendar in Africa which is tipped to be graced by high-level Government officials.
