ZANU-PF Women’s League members in Manicaland together with the youth wing as well as Zimbabwe Liberation War Collaborators Association staged a peaceful demonstration in Mutare on Wednesday calling for the ouster of two national executive members.

More than 200 people from the party’s eight districts in Manicaland participated in the short demonstration which was in solidarity with other nine provinces calling for the firing of the deputy national secretary for Women’s Affairs, Cde Eunice Sandi-Moyo and secretary for finance, Cde Sarah Mahoka.

The two are accused of undermining the authority of the national secretary for Women’s Affairs, Amai Dr Grace Mugabe.

Cde Sandi-Moyo is alleged to be working in cahoots with some national members to fight the First Lady as well as creating parallel structures against the First Lady.

Cde Sandi- Moyo was also reported to be running a faction in the women’s league.

Cde Mahoka is accused of denigrating Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services as well as Presidential spokesperson, Mr George Charamba.

The placards-waving women from Manicaland also had a petition which read: “Mai Sandi and Mahoka must go immediately for the following reasons: They must leave our First Lady, Secretary for Women’s League to run the Women’s League peacefully. Mai Sandi wants to take over the Secretarial of Women’s League. Mai Sandi is creating parallel structures against the First Lady. Mai Sandi is running a women’s factional structure.

“Mai Sandi and Mahoka were busy demoting National Women’s League leaders and replacing them with their choice without following party procedures and without approval from the First Lady. Mai Sandi and Mahoka were collecting money and other resources from the public and converting it for their personal use illegally, such as fuel coupons and cash.

“Mai Sandi refused to listen to authority of the First Lady when she was asked to excuse herself from a meeting as requested by chairwomen from all provinces. This is a high degree of insubordination.

“Mahoka has been roaming around going to all provinces abusing the First Lady’s name and authority. Mahoka went further to insult Vice-President, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa in public and to challenge the work of the Permanent Secretary, Cde George Charamba.”

In an interview, provincial Women’s League chairperson, Cde Estry Mlambo-Madhuku, said they were in solidarity with other provinces calling for the ouster of Cdes Sandi-Moyo and Mahoka because they had failed to respect the First Lady.

“They have failed to respect the authority of the First Lady. Even in the Bible, it is written that you should honour your father and mother and who are they to denigrate our First Lady. Vanhu vasina chimiro and we are not happy with their conduct. They should be fired because we cannot allow individuals to create parallel structures in the party.

“We also drafted our own letter as Manicaland that we have forwarded to the national executive tabling detailed allegations against the two. Unfortunately I cannot disclose the contents of the letter until it has been tabled to our leaders.

“Every district in Manicaland was represented and some could not make it, but they phoned expressing their solidarity messages. Our placards had clear messages of what we wanted the world to know about Cdes Sandi-Moyo and Mahoka’s unruly behaviour,” said Cde Mlambo-Madhuku.
