A SOUTH African-based Chipinge man was last week arraigned before the courts for fatally stabbing his neighbour with a knife as revenge for the alleged murder of his young brother.

Mwoyowachena Sithole of Mwoyowachena Village under Chief Garahwa allegedly stabbed the neighbour whose name was not available on the State papers with a knife on the shoulder.

The neighbour sustained deep cuts and died on the spot.

Sithole was not asked to plead when he appeared before senior Chipinge magistrate, Mr Noah Gwatidzo last Friday.

He was facing murder charges as defined in Section 47(1) (a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23.

Sithole said he attacked the late neighbour as revenge for killing his young brother in South Africa.

‘’Your Worship, the deceased killed my younger brother in South Africa. When I met him I thought he would kill me just like what he did to my young brother. I decided to attack him first. My intention was not to kill him, but to interrogate him on why he killed my brother,’’ said Sithole.

Prosecuting, Mr Witness Nyamundaya, said on December 25, at around 8pm and at the 162 km peg along Ngundu-Tanganda Road in Chipinge, Sithole met his now late neighbour in the company of Onias Mlambo and Chimangaiso Muyambo.

They were coming from drinking beer at Vheneka Business Centre.

“The accused person shouted obscenities at the three and Mlambo asked Sithole why he was shouting at them. This angered Sithole who stabbed his neighbour once on the right collar bone with a knife.

“The neighbour collapsed and bled profusely. He died from the injuries sustained during the attack,” said Mr Nyamundaya.

Sithole was ordered to apply for bail at the High Court and Mr Gwatidzo adjourned the matter to January 27.
