Rusape motor industry on recovery path

THE motor industry in Rusape is on a resurgent path, slowly picking up its pieces and retaining most of its clients who were of late have been seeking services outside the town.

A check by Post Business of garages in the town revealed that most of them have retooled and revamped their machinery and are also being manned by trained and qualified mechanics.

There was a serious disinvestment in the motor industry during the hyperinflation era as most garages shut down citing dwindling business activity and skilled personnel flight.

Most garages have since reopened and are recording good business as corporate clients; Non-Governmental Organisations and individuals are now servicing their vehicles in the town as opposed going to other cities.

The revival of the auto industry has also a bearing on agricultural activities as farmers were having nightmares in servicing heavy vehicles and machinery such as tractors and combine harvesters in Mutare and Harare, incurring huge expenses in the process.

M and T Radiators director, Mr Malakiya Chimbudzi, said most garages were now fully equipped with modern and state-of-the-art equipment that meets the satisfaction of their clients who had once deserted them.

He further said it was waste of money and time for vehicle owners to seek any services out of Rusape.

“Most business in the motor industry sector has revamped their operations in order to lure back our previous customers and to maintain the current ones.

As you can see here at M and T Radiators all the equipment we have now is latest and state-of-the-art. We are giving our clients the best professional services and there is no need for them to go to Mutare or Harare to seek the same services.

“There are very experienced mechanics and technicians who are properly trained by recognised colleges. We are very happy that we are now winning back our old clients who had deserted us for other towns.

Clients such as corporate, churches, schools, parastatals, NGOs, farmers and individuals are now giving us work to do.

“The auto industry here in Rusape is employing a lot of people and its playing a significant role in the growth of the town,” said Mr Chimbudzi who boasts of over 20 years in the industry, specialising on radiators.
