A FISHING expedition by two Rusape fishmongers ended tragically when one of them drowned in Rusape Dam recently.

Police confirmed the death of Naison Hurudza (24) of Chiundu Village, Chief Tandi who drowned while fishing with his friend, Elvis Katanganda.

Rusape District police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Muzondiwa Clean, warned members of the public to desist from fishing without permits and not to enter water bodies when they are not good swimmers.

“Naison Hurudza (24) of Chiundu Village, Chief Tandi was fishing in Rusape Dam using nets with his friend, Elvis Katanganda (29) when tragedy struck. Naison entered into the dam with the intention of setting nets and drowned. Elvis tried to rescue him, but failed.

“Elvis later informed members of the public and police were called in. Efforts to locate Naison were in vain and the Sub-Aqua Unit was called and managed to retrieve his body two days later.”
