| ST MARY’S Magdalene High School in Nyanga has partnered with Castle Lager Premier Soccer League outfit, Mutare City Rovers FC, in a move which is aimed at developing soccer players at the school. |
Mutare City Rovers spokesperson, Clayton Masekesa, on Tuesday confirmed the partnership.
He said besides developing soccer at the school, the partnership would also provide Mutare City with a pool of young players who would be drafted into the senior team.
“We are excited to announce a new partnership with St Mary’s Magdalene
High School which will focus on player development and community collaboration. Our coaches will provide their expertise to soccer players at the school,” said Masekesa.
“The partnership will help to develop sport at the school and offer great opportunities to talented soccer players who will have an opportunity to play soccer at a higher level.
“Mutare City Rovers will have a wider pool of players. We want to have a strong player base and these youngsters will be part of our junior policy,” said Masekesa.
Soccer players from the school will be accorded a chance to watch every Mutare City Rovers home match at Sakubva Stadium.
They were part of the crowd that watched Gusha Bhora beat Triangle 2-0 last Sunday at Sakubva Stadium last Sunday.
St Mary’s Magdalene High School sports master, Shupai Mukwekwerere, also confirmed the partnership.
“We reached this decision to partner Mutare City Rovers after having a meeting with our SDC (School Development Committee) and it was noted that it was a brilliant idea that will develop soccer at the school,” Mukwekwerere said. “We are thrilled to be working with Mutare City Rovers and we are confident that this partnership will help our soccer players develop into well polished sportsmen,” he added.
