MUTARE businessman Muhammed Shiraan (30), who operates Mega-Market Supermarkets, was last Friday robbed of $5 000 and an expensive cellphone among other valuables by two unidentified armed robbers.Manicaland provincial police spokesperson Inspector Tavhiringwa Kakohwa confirmed the robbery and expressed concern over the upsurge of robbery cases in the city.
He said on the day in question at around 7:20pm, two armed robbers went to Shiraan’s house in Murambi low-density suburb armed with pistols.
“They approached a security guard, Naboth Chikumbu (55), and pointed a pistol at him, demanding to know Shiraan’s whereabouts.
“They tied him with a rope and blindfolded him with a cap. At that time Shiraan arrived at his house, but as he disembarked from the car one of the robbers pointed the pistol at him. They force-marched him into the main house and he complied. The robbers demanded cash, but he told them that he only had jewellery and a laptop.
“The robbers took the jewellery and the laptop, but insisted on demanding cash. Shiraan ended up calling his cousin Abdul Wahid Alban (31) in Fairbridge Park to come to his place. Upon Alban’s arrival, one of the robbers pointed the pistol at him. He surrendered $5 000 he had and an Iphone 6 cellphone to one of the robbers.
“Shiraan and Alban were tied and locked in a room before the robbers vanished with the pair’s car keys and keys to the house.
“Nazalina Mohamed, Shiraan’s wife arrived at the house a moment later with spare keys and unlocked the doors. The matter was reported to the police and investigations are underway. So far nothing has been recovered,” said Insp Kakohwa.
He appealed to anyone with information that may lead to the arrest of the two dangerous armed criminals to report to their nearest police station.
