A CHIMANIMANI woman brewed a shocker at the Mutare Civil Courts recently when she demanded that her estranged husband who was requesting for divorce return their six children back into her womb.

Spiwe Matanda said this after John Maate had told the court that he no longer loved her and wanted to evict her from his house. Mutare magistrate, Miss Nyasha Kuture presided over the matter.

Matanda said she had no problem with the divorce, but told the court that she would consent when one condition was met.

She demanded that her husband return the six children they sired back into her womb.

“I have no problem at all with his decision of taking me back to my parents. All he has to do, however, is to put back the six children into my womb so that I return as I was when I came to his house.

“Maate used me and now wants to dump me, making false claims that I threaten him with death Your Worship. As I speak, we do not sleep in the same bedroom,” she explained.

Matanda declared that there would be war if she was divorced and evicted from their matrimonial house. She also told the court that she played a part in building the house.

“I will not leave. Ask him, at one time he took me to my parents and dumped me there thinking that I would consent to his chauvinistic ideas. I came back home against his will and I will not be divorced until he puts back my children in my womb,” she thundered.

Matanda had told the court that Maate was a violent wife who assaulted and insulted him in front of their children and neighbours. He also said she had tried to kill him by poisoning his sadza.

“This woman tried to kill me and I fear for my life if I continue to stay with her.

“All I want is for this court to restrict her from threatening me with death and preparing my food as I do not know her plans. I escaped death by a whisker after she poisoned me.

Miss Kuture granted a binding over protection order against Matanda and Maate.
