Preciously platinum for CAPS . . .

ESTEEMED followers of the game of football, thank you for finding time for interaction.

Two games do not make a season! No, they absolutely don’t and CAPS United are certainly cognisant of this fact as much as they do that their stripes are green.

Winning matches, especially crucial ones, is all in a season’s work; but the shift CAPS United have put in their last two – making light work of title-chasing pacesetters Ngezi Platinum Stars (3-0) and FC Platinum (2-1) – and has had their faithful purring with those near-perfect results.

That neat pair of wins over the championship aspirants is as precious as that metal mined by the Zvishavane and Mhomgoro-Ngezi-based clubs, and just like its colour it brings a silver lining to the hitherto dark cloud that had been menacingly hovering above the champions following an underwhelming and chastening start to the defence of their crown.

Unbeaten in their last four games, which has seen a fruitful return of three victories and a draw, it all pampers the Green Machine’s psychology and gives a massive boost to the players’ confidence while also seeing their fans’ spirits souring. It has also all effectively lifted them out of the drop zone. It, therefore, became a defining week – which must have had a refining effect – for CAPS United as they last mid-week endured an embarrassing moment where Ronald Pfumbidzai, who is leaving for South Africa’s Bloemfontein Celtic, snubbed his coaches’ handshakes after being substituted and also rebuffed the post-match ritual of saluting their fans in the stands.

The player showed his remorse, apologised and made Sunday’s victorious team. It is hard to ignore that a springing step appears to have now returned to the Harare giants’ gait that as they digest on their revival, how much bite and chew are they going to take out of the remainder of their season just so to keep the gathered momentum going?

That said, are they slowly but surely clawing their way out of the woods? Are they now turning the corner which sets them on the path to climbing up the league’s upper reaches?

Makepekepe coach Lloyd Chitembwe, who has some sound football stuff inside his skull in that space that sits between the ears, has been stoically telling everyone within earshot that they were only in sort of some transition and a cycle that was brought about by their title-winning run last season, Caf Champions League exertions as well as movement among their players. As such, he coined the now famous phrase “football does not lie” and it looks like he knew what exactly he was running his mouth about after all.

Will CAPS United continue glowing as they step up for this weekend’s blockbuster Battle of Harare against arch-rivals Dynamos who have also enjoyed an equally impressive run in their last five outings?

It’s Game On, Play On!

Your feedback: Richard Mahuhushe Chauke has this to say: There is no spirit of Fair Play in the PSL and this kills the flair of the games. Teams want to win at all costs by hook and crook. Even ball boys are reported to be influencing results when their teams are leading. There is rough play, time wasting by faking injuries and players abuse match officials through unnecessary protests. This kind of indiscipline is strangling our football.
