THE Manica Post News Editor, Cletus Mushanawani, last Thursday added a feather on his growing cap of accolades after scooping the Mining Media Awards Diamond Sector Best Reporter 2016 prize.

Mushanawani, won the award at a glittering ceremony held at a Harare hotel which was presided over by Minister of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services, Dr Chris Mushohwe who was standing in for Minister of Mines and Mining Development, Cde Walter Chidhakwa.

Mushanawani’s winning entry headlined: “The sad Chiadzwa diamond story” was published in The Manica Post of March 11, 2016.

The winning entry looked at the social and economic impact of diamond mining at Chiadzwa.

An excited Mushanawani who won a trophy, certificate and cash said: “The award is an early birthday present as I will be celebrating my birthday next Thursday on October 13.

“The award is also a special dedication to my children who are always looking forward to see my byline in the newspaper.

“My byline in the paper is their source of joy and some of them are contemplating taking up journalism as a career.

“I also want to thank my Editor, Hatred Zenenga, The Manica Post Sales and Distribution Manager, Mrs Liz Mushonga, Diamond FM station manager, Leander Kandiero and all staff members at Mutare Branch for their support and encouragement.

“Let us continue with the team spirit because as a team, we can sail through the harsh economic environment.”

Sport FM’s Theophilus Chuma won the electronic media award, while Financial Gazette’s Andrew Kunambura, Phillimon Mhlanga, Shame Makoshori, won in the categories of Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability, Platinum sector and Gold sector respectively.

Freelance journalist, Tawanda Karombo was the best reporter for the mining sector and economy, while Lovemore Zigara won the Small-scale and Artisanal Mining award.
