MUTARE witnessed the birth of a new pool league last week and the two – Mutare Pool League and Diamond Pool League – will now run as separate entities, Weekender Sport has learnt.

The newly formed Diamond Pool League will start their league matches on Sunday with a total of 14 teams having confirmed their participation in the league.

Interestingly, Mutare Pool League 2016 season winners, Zhaq Shirak are part of the entourage that defected to the Diamond Pool League from Mutare Pool League together with Black Stars that settled for fifth position in the Mutare Pool League last season.

Running under an interim executive, the Diamond Pool League will see new clubs, G Stars from Gimboki area, Hanzu One and Two from Dangamvura and Hobhouse, fellow Dangamvura outfits, Chitsa and Rozvi Empire, returnees, Munongedzo based at Murahwa Green Market and Complex Stars previously known as Latent taking part in their maiden season, while old clubs that defected from Mutare Pool League will also be part of the same league.

On the other hand, Mutare Pool League is going ahead with the remaining teams together with other new clubs that joined the league at its annual general meeting held last Saturday.

Mutare Pool League elected a new chairman, Fungai Makoni at that meeting, while Harris Shoni retained the treasurer’s post.  Kudzai Mariga was elected secretary.

Long serving Mutare Pool League chairman, Steven Chingwingwi, was retained in the new set up as an ex-officio member regardless of his recent election into the national executive.

By the time of going to Press, the Mutare Pool League was set to have its first meeting to come up with fixtures and dates on Thursday (yesterday).

In a statement, Mutare Pool League confirmed that they have a number of new clubs that include Golden Peacock, Zimunya Liquor Centre, Acid and others.
