A DRIVER with National Eye Security Company that is providing services to Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company in Chiadzwa was hauled before the courts on allegations of stealing 60kg of diamond ore that were later intercepted at a police roadblock.

The suspect, John Madzivire (38) and his fugitive accomplice, Edward Mawere loaded the loot into a company lorry and had succeeded to ship out the consignment off the fields before luck ran out at the roadblock.

He denied the charges when he appeared before Mutare senior magistrate, Mrs Sekai Chiundura and was granted $40 bail.

He was remanded to September 16.

He allegedly contravened Section 379 of the Mines and Minerals Act, Chapter 21:06.

Mr Fletcher Karombe prosecuted.

Allegations were that on August 29 at around 10am, Madzivire and Mawere, who is also a driver with the same company, went to Portal B of the Zimbabwe Consolidated Diamond Company where they loaded 60kg of diamond ore into two sacks.

They loaded the sacks into their company lorry.

Madzivire drove the lorry off the fields towards Hot Springs with the loot.

However, when they reached the Odzi police roadblock a search was conducted on the vehicle and the two sacks with the diamond ore were recovered.

Madzivire was arrested, while Mawere fled.
