A ZIMUNYA man who allegedly teamed up with three other fugitive accomplices to abduct and assault a passenger in Mutare and later dumped him at Murahwa Green Market has appeared in court.

Brighton Mabusha (40) was being charged with kidnapping as defined in Section 93 (1) (a) as read with Section 93 (3) (a) (1) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23.

The matter was adjourned to March 23 for trial.

Mr Tendai Bepura presided over the matter, while Mr Fletcher Karombe prosecuted.

Allegations were that on March 3 at around 8am, Jacob Matiza boarded a commuter omnibus at Quest Motors in Sakubva.

When the kombi parked at Spar Supermarket in the Central Business District, Mabusha’s Isuzu vehicle came and parked behind it.

At that time, a Nissan Navara also parked in front of the commuter omnibus, blocking it in the process.

“The three accused persons went to the commuter omnibus and allegedly dragged Matiza out of the vehicle. They assaulted him and dragged him into the Isuzu vehicle,” said Mr Karombe.

They further assaulted him and he sustained serious injuries.

When they arrived at Sakubva Green Market, they dumped the complainant and fled.

The complainant was robbed of his Samsung Galaxy S3 mobile phone and $50 cash.

Mr Bepura advised Mubusha to apply for bail at the High Court as he was facing a Third Schedule offence.
