ONE person died and 24 others seriously injured on Sunday when a suspended bridge in Honde Valley they were crossing collapsed after failing to sustain their weight.
The makeshift Murara bridge was constructed five years ago to connect Muparutsa and Samutete villages in Mutasa North.
The communities rely on the bridge to access the nearby business centre.
Mutasa North MP Cde Chido Madiwa said the situation was dire as the collapsed bridge
needed urgent rehabilitation or risk people being swept away flowing water while trying to cross the river.
18 of the 24 injured people were still admitted at Hauna Hospital on Tuesday.
The rest were treated and discharged.
The incident occurred when over 50 people coming from a social soccer match attempted to cross the suspended bridge simultaneously.
The bridge gave in after failing to sustain their weight.
