YOUNG Mutare kickboxing star, Knowledge Nyamhoka (Junior)(pictured) will tomorrow (Saturday) represent Manicaland at the Final Chapter Kick-Boxing Tournament set for Mbare, Harare.Nyamhoka who is son to Mutare kick-boxing icon, Knowledge Nyamhoka, said he was ready to compete in the national event.

He will take part in the Under-20 light-weight category.

“I have been working so hard and I hope to represent my province well.

I hope to bring a gold medal. It is so sad that I am going alone at this tournament.

Many people do not appreciate kick-boxing, but it is a sport like soccer and all other sports,” he said.

Nyamhoka Jnr, who is an O-Level student at Nyamajura High School in Odzi, said he started kick-boxing at the age of five and aspires to represent the nation in future international events.

The youngster has participated in various tournaments.

In 2010, he came second in the All Stars Kung Fu Competition before scooping a silver medal at the same tournament in Marange in 2012.

He won a gold medal early this month during another contest held in the capital.

“I started kick-boxing when I was five.  My dad inspired me to take up the sport since he is one of the kick-boxing champions in the country. I am just following in his footsteps and hope to do better than him,” he added.

In a separate interview, kickboxing national president, Tony Kamangira, said all was set for the tournament with participants from all over the country.

“All is in place now. We as a board have decided to make it a monthly event .

We have six categories and winners in each category will get medals and cash. I urge all Harare residents to come in their numbers and give us maximum support.

We have tried as an association to improve our standards. Our sport is doing very well and we have introduced it in various schools especially in the capital city.

We will also use this tournament to select our national team, The Kick Leg Hunters,” he said.
