THE National Social Service Security Authority last Friday handed over a state-of-the-art Recreation Park to Chipinge Town Council as part of the agreement made when NSSA acquired land to construct its multi-million complex in the town.

The one-hectare recreation park which is fully powered by solar will also be used as an income generating project facility.

Speaking on behalf of NSSA acting general manager, Mr Henry Chikova, a representative, Mr Banabas Matongera, hailed Chipinge Town Council for availing land for the construction of its infrastructure in the district.

Mr Matongera said: “Our organisation wants to thank the local council for allowing us to change the face of Chipinge, not only through brick work and construction, but also enhancing the natural beauty of the town.

“NSSA has done the best it can in ensuring that the park can be used by council as a public amenity as well as income generating facility.

“We have tried to ensure that the environment is protected as much as possible by mentaining existing trees and plants within the park, but at the same time introducing other plants to enhance the site.

“NSSA will attend to any problems encountered at the recreation park as long as it is not a result of negligence on the part of the council.

“Maintenance workers will come in and provide services in the form of weeding, watering and occasionally fertilising where it is necessary for the next two months,” said Mr Matongera.

Chipinge Town Council chairperson, Councillor Lovemore Huni, said the council was excited by the partnership they had with NSSA of forging a win-win socially responsibility roles.

Clr Huni said the recreational park and the commercial centre that NSSA was putting up in Chipinge town were aimed at enhancing the status of Chipinge town.

“We are excited to receive this recreational park which demonstrates clear the public-private partnerships that has been directed by Central Government. We have received submissions from our collegues that apart from being this recreation park, we can transform it into an events centre, a move which can also support a revenue collection drive.

“I would like to thank all stakeholders for supporting the council in its tireless drive to make Chipinge Town Council a true rising star from the east. The council will make sure that the park will be maintained,” said Clr Huni. Chipinge District Administrator, Mr Edgars Seenza, thanked NSSA for championing development and also called for more institutions to emulate NSSA to develop marginalised communities.

“We are very gratefully with what NSSA is doing here in Chipinge. They are already finishing a multi-million complex here which will change the face of the town. We are encouraging other institutions not to hesitate to knock at our doors,” said Mr Seenza.

The event was attended by local headman, NSSA officials, heads of Government departments and councillors.
