A PENHALONGA burglar who pounced on Sakubva residents in the middle of the night and stole electronic gadgets was nabbed recently.

Taurai Sairi (24) pleaded guilty to three of the eight counts of unlawful entry he was facing when he appeared before senior Mutare magistrate, Mrs Sekai Chiundura.

On all the counts, he was facing unlawful entry into premises as defined in Section 131(1) ARW Section 131(2)(e) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act, Chapter 9:23.

The State denied Sairi bail as he is of no fixed abode.

He was remanded in custody.

Mr Fletcher Karombe prosecuted.

It was alleged that on May 22, Sairi broke and entered into Christ Kingdom Christian Church in Sakubva and stole a Yamaha keyboard, amplifier, a bag of microphones, cables, three boxes of toys, cables and 14 metres of decoration cloth and went away unnoticed.

Said Mr Karombe: “On July 31, detectives received information that Sairi was the one who had committed the offence. He was arrested and voluntarily led the detectives to House Number 226, Tsvingwe, Penhalonga where part of the property was recovered.”

The total value of goods stolen at the church is $1 700 and only property worth $1 000 was recovered.

Sairi pleaded guilty to the church unlawful entry matter.

It was further alleged that in the same high density suburb of Sakubva, Sairi stole from seven other households.

“In the middle of the night of May 29, Sairi broke and entered into Leonard Ziyera’s Zororo house and stole an HP laptop and a Starlite subwoofer and went away unnoticed.

“That same night, he went to Beatrice Mapiri’s house and stole a sofa frame.

“He also broke and entered into Last Mandudzo’s house unnoticed and went away with a 21-inch television set, DVD and Mandudzo’s travelling documents which were also not recovered,” said Mr Karombe.

It was also stated that Sairi broke and entered into five other residences and stole property worth $3 362 and only property worth $1 785 was recovered.

He will appear in court for his sentence on the three counts that he pleaded guilty to tomorrow (Saturday).

He will also appear in court for trial on the five remaining counts on August 17.
