The ManicaPost

The following are two poems written by 25-year-old school-leaver, unpublished poet, Stuart Kamangira from his unpublished

Anthology- Notes of The Dejected Citizen.
It contains the amazing brilliance of a young aspiring writer already oozing a rare gift of poetic magic:

Against False Worth
I do not need your degree
To be accepted and received.
I do not need your degree
To nourish and to succeed,
For what I am worth
Is not proven in a test
On a classroom desk-
Contending to be first.
But unlike the rest
What I must confess-
My only classroom is Earth,
Who offers no license
To prove that I’m best.
I do not need your degree.

(from BLIND BEGGARS)
Paltry coins from another rusty plate
Jingle repetitively the constant sound
Produced by the scraggy hands of an old beggar
In the streets of the underground place
Where the light shone never reaches the face.

Two hungry and sullied babies
Scramble around her fragile body
Around the form of their sightless overseer
Daily inhaling the dust
Raised by the various battered shoes
Donned by the unsteady feet of citizens
The non-combatants on the run. she not one of us?
Detained from the open skies
where dreams seek rest.
Is she not one of us?
Detained by enigmatic magnet
A plethoric gravity levity adverse.

Love forsaken earth,
Deliver this lone mother
The blind lifetime neglected upon your face
Make conscious the ghostlike beings desensitized
Forever out of relation
With the wounds of suffering spirit and flesh

Pitifully calling for change from where she sits
The concrete terra firma
Inspired by the violent heat
Burning the heart
Human emotions to cinders
Futile remnants of a loving idea that once breathed.
(ends.)
